Federal Court: CFMMEU senior leadership condoned lawbreaking; $142,000 penalty imposed

The Federal Court has imposed total penalties of $142,000 on the CFMMEU and three of its officials for taking coercive action at a Carlton building site in March 2015 on the basis that senior CFMMEU leadership condoned the contravening conduct.

Minimum wage increase – make sure you are paying the right rate

On Friday 1 June 2018 the Fair Work Commission announced a 3.5% increase to the minimum wage. The increase applies from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2018. The increase affects the minimum wage in modern awards, as well as allowances that are based on the minimum rate of pay.

CFMEU and MUA amalgamation does NOT impact validity of CFMEU or MUA right of entry permits under the Fair Work Act

On Tuesday 27 March 2018, the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU), Maritime Union of Australia (MUA), and Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia (TCFUA) amalgamated. The new organisation is called the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMMEU).

Court penalises CFMEU “gatekeeper” for enforcing ‘no-ticket, no-start’ on Melbourne construction site

The Federal Court today imposed penalties totalling $105,000 against the CFMEU and a shop steward for stopping two workers, who were not financial members of the CFMEU, from working on the Quest Apartments construction site in Melbourne.
