WA labour hire company and contractor penalised $29,000 for age discrimination

The Federal Court has today penalised West Australian labour hire company, CoreStaff WA Pty Ltd, $20,000 and a WA based contractor, Gumala Enterprises Pty Ltd, $9,000. CoreStaff and Gumala Enterprises were found to have discriminated against a worker when they refused to hire a qualified 70 year old grader because of his age.

The Federal Court has penalised the CFMMEU and its official, James Simpson, $54,540 for contravening right of entry and occupational health and safety requirements at the $220 million Monash Freeway upgrade project in 2017.

The Queensland state secretary of the CFMMEU, Michael Ravbar, has abandoned his application to renew his right of entry permit. Mr Ravbar is no longer authorised to exercise entry rights in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009.

Record penalties imposed on CFMMEU and officials for Adelaide Airport construction breaches

The Federal Court has today penalised the CFMMEU and six officials $428,250 for making misrepresentations about the requirement to show their entry permits, refusing to follow directions, and acting in an improper manner during the $165 million redevelopment of Terminal 1 at Adelaide Airport in 2019.

The Federal Circuit Court has penalised Brisbane labour hire company ADADN Pty Ltd $33,300 for failing to provide documents during separate ABCC investigations into alleged underpayment of wages and unlawful industrial action.
