On Friday 1 June 2018 the Fair Work Commission announced a 3.5% increase to the minimum wage. The increase applies from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2018.
The increase affects the minimum wage in modern awards, as well as allowances that are based on the minimum rate of pay.
Employers who pay their employees under a modern award
Employers should refer to their modern award to ensure that they are paying the correct rates to their employees from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2018.
Employers who pay their employees under an enterprise agreement
Employers whose employees are covered by an enterprise agreement should confirm that the base rate in the enterprise agreement remains higher than the adjusted base rate in the modern award.
If the adjusted base rate in the modern award is higher than the base rate in the enterprise agreement, you need to pay your employees the new modern award base rate in addition to other enterprise agreement entitlements.
