Building and construction employers are encouraged to make sure they are paying their employees correctly.

Over the past 12 months the ABCC has recovered $241,986 for 183 employees. The money related to the underpayment of wages and workers’ entitlements.

The successful outcomes were the result of the ABCC proactively auditing building and construction employers and through complaints lodged with the agency.

The audits revealed that while more than 70 per cent of employers are compliant with their obligations some employers are misinterpreting award provisions relating to things such as travel and meal allowances.

The correct payment of wages and entitlements will be a major focus of the ABCC’s education and awareness raising campaign over the next 12 months.
