March 2014 Industry Update

Message from FWBC Director Nigel Hadgkiss

I hope this Industry Update finds you well.

FWBC has been incredibly busy in recent months. Several matters have been filed in the courts and many complex investigations are keeping staff working hard.

While we hope for fewer problems to investigate – as this would mean industry participants are obeying the law – unfortunately this does not seem to be the case.

Queensland has been particularly active, with 25 current investigations. This is more than any other state or territory in the country.

We are also aware of the importance of proactively educating workers, businesses and unions about their workplace rights and responsibilities. The more people who are informed about their rights and obligations, the better chance we have of a more productive and harmonious industry. This would benefit all industry participants.

What benefits me most, is feedback from you.

The more you tell me about what is and is not working in the industry, the more I can assist you. Whether you are a first year apprentice, a small business owner, head contractor, or union member or official, I want to know what problems you are facing when you go to work. This is an important way for me to gauge whether FWBC is being effective, and how we can do better.

You can give me feedback via the contact details below.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Nigel
