July 2014 Industry Update

Message from FWBC Director Nigel Hadgkiss

Welcome to the FWBC Industry Update.

FWBC reached 30 June this year having initiated over 320 new investigations in the 2013-14 financial year.

One particular area of concern remains Right of Entry breaches, and FWBC has been particularly busy in this regard.

We have seen an 850% increase in investigations into Right of Entry breaches from the start of July 2013 through to the end of June 2014.

Likewise, the total penalties handed down by Courts as a result of FWBC action over the financial year exceeded $1.9 million – more than double the amount for the 2012-13 financial year.

This edition takes a brief look at some of the current issues of concern encountered by our investigators, including notice of entry for Federal permit holders, the notice by employers for working on an RDO, and the importance of asking to see an original version of a Federal Right of Entry permit.

FWBC is committed to making sure that you have the right information on your rights and obligations, so that you can get on with the job.

Please send any ideas or feedback you have via the contact details below.
