December 2013 Industry Update

Message from FWBC Director Nigel Hadgkiss

December has allowed me to take stock and continue moving Fair Work Building & Construction’s (FWBC) strategic direction towards instituting the rule of law in the building and construction industry.

FWBC staff are supporting this strategy with their continued service to industry participants. They are doing this through:

  • updates to the website and fact sheets to reflect out new priorities;
  • reviewing our approach to presentations to make them more effective; and
  • taking feedback from industry on what works and what could be improved.

The Building and Construction Industry (Improving productivity) Bill 2013, which will reinstate the ABCC, is again with the Senate. I will remain informed on the progress of the Bill, which will affect how I direct the agency.

I want to remind you that FWBC does not only provide advice. Individuals can call anonymously to report breaches of workplace law. All reports are confidential and our inspectors and lawyers will investigate and litigate breaches to the fullest extent of the law.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and New Year and I look forward to working with industry in 2014.
