The ABCC has commenced proceedings in the Federal Court alleging the CFMMEU and two of its officials, including assistant Queensland state secretary Jade Ingham, engaged in coercion, adverse action and organised unlawful industrial action.

On 12 December 2019, the Federal Circuit Court in Sydney imposed penalties totalling $156,900 against the CFMMEU and two of its officials after they contrived safety concerns against a crane company and organised work stoppages at three sites.

On 6 June 2019 the Federal Court awarded penalties of $137,000 against the CFMMEU and one of its senior Tasmanian officials, Richard Hassett, for unlawful action and putting workers' safety in "harm's way" at the Living City project site in Devonport in June 2017.

Legal Case
On 13 September 2019, the Federal Court handed down penalties totaling $34,500 against the CFMMEU and its former official Brendan Murphy after Mr Murphy was found to have intentionally hindered and obstructed construction work at the Geelong Grammar school on 3 December 2014 December 2014.

The Federal Circuit Court in the ACT has penalised the CFMMEU $138,000 and six officials a further $63,500 following breaches of right of entry laws across three apartment project sites in Franklin, Harrison and Wright in 2013 and 2014.

The ABCC has commenced proceedings against the CFMMEU and three of its officials alleging they organised unlawful industrial action, contravened right of entry laws and threatened to shut down the Melbourne University Veterinary School project site in Werribee.

The Federal Court in Victoria on 27 February 2020 penalised the CFMMEU and its senior official Alex Tadic a total of $59,500 for abusing a Victorian WorkSafe official. The case related to the 2014 construction of the Castlemaine Police Station.
