A building contractor is a person who has entered into, or who has offered to enter into, a contract for services under which the person either:

  • carries out building work
  • arranges for building work to be carried out.

The Federal Circuit Court in Brisbane has today penalised Forest Meiers Construction and its construction manager a total of $35,000 for refusing to engage subcontractor C&K Tiling because the company did not have an enterprise agreement with the CFMMEU.

The ABCC has commenced Federal Court action against the CFMMEU and three of its officials alleging they targeted Newcastle crane company Wheeler Cranes because it did not have an enterprise agreement with the union.

On Friday 1 June 2018 the Fair Work Commission announced a 3.5% increase to the minimum wage. The increase applies from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2018. The increase affects the minimum wage in modern awards, as well as allowances that are based on the minimum rate of pay.
