The ABCC has commenced proceedings against the CFMMEU and six of its Queensland-based officials alleging they intimidated NT Worksafe Inspectors and demanded that the head contractor shut down construction at the Palmerston Police Station site.

The ABCC commenced proceedings against Victorian building company, SWAT Building Systems, and its director, Ilias Lymberatos. The ABCC alleges that a worker was underpaid more than $22,500 and had his employment terminated by the employer when he asked about his pay.

The Federal Circuit Court in Brisbane has found Forest Meiers Construction liable to pay $200,000 in compensation for taking adverse action and discriminating against a tiling subcontractor because they did not have an enterprise agreement with the CFMMEU.

The Federal Court has today ruled that union officials must hold and show a valid federal right of entry permit upon request when visiting construction sites for safety reasons.

The CFMEU and seven of its officials, including senior union leaders Dave Noonan (National Secretary), Mick Buchan (WA State Secretary) and Joe McDonald (then WA Assistant State Secretary), have been penalised for unlawful conduct which halted work at the $1.2 billion Perth Children’s Hospital project.

The Federal Court has today imposed maximum penalties on the CFMEU and penalised a number of senior officials, including the State Secretary, Brian Parker for unlawful conduct at the Barangaroo site in Sydney.
