01 June 2012FWBC open for business

Fair Work Building & Construction (FWBC), the new regulator of workplace laws in the building and construction industry, begins operations today. FWBC is impartial and accessible to all building and construction industry participants.

FWBC is a separate, stand alone agency with its own agency head, staff and budget. It is not a part of the Fair Work Ombudsman or Fair Work Australia.

FWBC is accessible, accountable and transparent. We will enforce workplace laws in the building and construction industry. Further, we will ensure compliance with those laws by all industry participants, through the provision of education advice and assistance.

We are responsible for:

  • the provision of education, assistance and advice to industry participants regarding their rights and obligations
  • inquiring into and investigating acts and practices by industry participants
  • conducting civil penalty litigation or making submissions to Fair Work Australia to enforce compliance by industry participants
  • representing industry participants who are, or may become, a party to court proceedings or matters before Fair Work Australia to promote compliance with relevant workplace laws
  • referring matters to relevant authorities where appropriate.

We look forward to working with you to make Australia’s building and construction industry more fair and productive.
