07 June 2013Fair Work Building Industry Inspectors head to North West Victoria

Fair Work Building Industry Inspectors will conduct site visits in North West Victoria next week to help employers and workers understand their rights and obligations under workplace relations laws.

Inspectors will visit sites in Bendigo (Tuesday), Kerang (Wednesday), Swan Hill (Wednesday), Mildura (Thursday and Friday) and Ouyen (Friday). They will also use the trip to promote FWBC’s Know Your Worth Campaign.

Fair Work Building & Construction (FWBC) Acting Director Brian Corney said the primary purpose of site visits is to educate employers and workers.

“FWBC is the independent, standalone regulator of workplace laws in Australia’s construction industry. An important part of our role is providing information and advice to help work sites run fairly and productively,” Mr Corney said.

“Our inspectors are looking forward to speaking with many people working in Bendigo, Kerang, Swan Hill, Mildura and Ouyen while they are in town. Employees often have questions about pay and entitlements. We can also help employers with these issues as well as how they can improve their compliance with the Building Code 2013.”

FWBC has conducted 1221 site visits since it began operation on 1 June 2012.

“If people would like our inspectors to come and visit their site, they can call our hotline on 1800 003 338,” Mr Corney said.

The Know Your Worth campaign is aimed at giving apprentices in the building and construction industry better access to information about what they should be paid. More information is available at www.knowyourworth.gov.au or on FWBC’s Know Your Worth Facebook page.
