12 March 2013Fair Work Building Industry Inspectors head to Cairns this week

Fair Work Building Industry Inspectors will be in Cairns this week to conduct a record-keeping and pay slip audit of businesses in the local construction industry.

Fair Work Building & Construction (FWBC) Chief Executive Leigh Johns said the visit is part of FWBC’s national audit campaign.

“FWBC is conducting this campaign to ensure that all employees in the commercial construction industry are being paid correctly, receiving pay slips and that employers are keeping the appropriate employment records,” Mr Johns said.

“Fair Work Building Industry Inspectors will be in Cairns from Wednesday, 13 March until Friday, 15 March to conduct the audits and deliver presentations to Cairns employers.

“Providing advice and assistance is an important part of our role as the regulator of workplace relations laws in the Australian construction industry.”

Mr Johns said FWBC can help Cairns employers in the construction industry to understand their responsibilities and make sure they are meeting their obligations.

“Employers can request a visit from Fair Work Building Industry Inspectors, or chat to one on the phone, by calling our hotline on 1800 003 338,” Mr Johns said.

“Our advice is free and impartial so there’s no reason not to take the time to make sure you are doing all the right things with regards to pay, entitlements and record-keeping.

“Ensuring that pay and record-keeping obligations are being met will save employers headaches in the long-run.”

If you miss us this time, but would like further information or advice about workplace relations laws in the construction industry or minimum wages and entitlements, please give us a call on 1800 003 338.
