Chair appalled by attack on Hadgkiss

"I was appalled by the vicious personal attack Senator Cameron made against Nigel Hadgkiss" said John Lloyd, Chair of the FWBC Advisory Board.

Mr Lloyd appeared with Mr Hadgkiss, the Director of the FWBC, at a hearing of the Senate Education and Employment Standing Committee in Melbourne on Wednesday 12 March 2014. The Committee is conducting an inquiry into a Bill to re-establish the ABCC.

"Mr Hadgkiss is a senior public servant with extensive experience in law enforcement and building industry workplace relations. He has served governments of both political persuasions with distinction," Mr Lloyd said.

"Today's highly personal and vindictive attack was extraordinary. In my many years of appearing before parliamentary committees I have never witnessed anything like it.

"In the past public servants working in building industry workplace relations have been subjected to personal vilification, bullying and threats by union officials.

"I had anticipated today's hearing would be devoted to policy and legal analysis of the Bill. Instead it deteriorated into an attempt to repudiate Mr Hadgkiss' performance and abilities," Mr Lloyd observed.

"Most in the Australian building and construction industry are anxious to achieve a return to lawful conduct. It is hoped this can be achieved soon and with little personal rancour," Mr Lloyd said.
