FWBC is aware of the role the media plays in informing industry participants of FWBC’s activities, explaining key outcomes and improving understanding of Australian workplace laws.
FWBC releases a media statement and media backgrounder detailing the allegations contained in the statement of claim for new legal proceedings commenced as well as a media statement commenting on litigated matters finalised. FWBC also provides media statements and alerts on current and relevant issues as they occur in the building and construction industry and provides information on new FWBC initiatives.
FWBC also distributes a monthly e-newsletter called ‘Industry Update’. The Industry Update is an effective way for FWBC to reach building and construction industry participants. Email subscribers are provided with information about industry issues such as workplace disputes, industrial action, case studies of companies that the agency has assisted or advised, and updates on activities and audits.
During 2013-14, FWBC issued 30 media statements, released 12 media backgrounders and sent out eight Industry Update newsletters. FWBC also responded to 120 media requests, over double the amount from the previous year.
