Working Together

The ABCC provides a productive and supportive workplace, modelling shared behaviours and offering equal opportunities for all employees. As an Australian Public Service employer the ABCC follows the Public Service Act 1999, which reflects government and community expectations on being fair and inclusive.

The ABCC recognises the value of individual differences and is committed to managing diversity in the workplace. Examples of the ABCC’s support for diversity include:

  • introducing a Supported Travel policy that subsidises the costs of taxi fares for staff who require disabled taxi services to travel to and from work
  • the introduction of a Disability Action Plan as an effective tool to plan and implement changes that remove barriers to access for people with a disability
  • supporting Indigenous staff to pursue Executive Leadership Dimensions Indigenous Scholarships, a program to increase opportunities for Indigenous APS staff
  • participating in the annual NAIDOC week celebrations
  • advertising all vacancies on Indigenous Jobs Australia, a national employment website dedicated to connecting Indigenous Australian job seekers with employers that are searching for Indigenous employees
  • a calendar of outlining a variety of significant multicultural events is available to staff via the ABCC’s intranet
  • contribution to Federal Government’s Access and Equity Report.  This report provides a snapshot of access and equity issues and responses across Australian Government agencies.  An annual Access and Equity report on federal government agencies’ performance against an access and equity framework has been tabled in both houses of parliament since 1993
  • establishing the ABCC Women's network and encouraging female staff to attend AIM Women's breakfasts and the Executive Women's Leadership Symposium, of which the ABCC is an Employer of Choice
  • ensuring recruitment panels apply the ABCC's Workplace Diversity Guidelines.

The following publications provide an overview of the core values and principles that guide the ABCC’s commitment to diversity.
