Sham Contracting Inquiry - Submissions close 7 March 2011

National , Alert

Release date: 1 March 2011

On 19 November 2010 ABC Commissioner Leigh Johns opened an inquiry into sham contracting in the building and construction industry. A discussion paper was released on 22 December 2010 raising issues for discussion in relation to the use of sham arrangements and labour hire in the building and construction industry.

The Sham Contracting Inquiry brings together building industry participants, workplace relations specialists and other government departments and agencies to address issues relating to sham contracting and develop methods by which it can be prevented.

The Inquiry has the potential to improve the building and construction industry significantly by stamping out practices that hurt workers, undermine fairness, diminish tax equity and damage the viability of decent employers.
