Court orders picketing to stop at West Gate Bridge project

National , Alert

Release date: 1 April 2009

The Federal Court in Melbourne has ordered a halt to ongoing action which has interfered with work at the West Gate Bridge Strengthening Project in Spotswood.

The Orders handed down on 24 March 2009 by Justice Jessup extend previous injunctions stopping picketing at the Project site.

The Court’s Orders restrain the AMWU, the CFMEU and a number of named persons from preventing or hindering the supply of goods or services to the Project, or counselling or procuring persons to not work on or to enter the Project. The Orders apply to the Project site and the offices of John Holland Pty Ltd in Port Melbourne and Abbotsford.

The Orders were made in response to separate injunctions sought by the ABCC and John Holland. The Orders are in force until the hearing and determination of the matter by the Court.

Further details regarding these proceedings, along with the Court Orders, can be found on the ABCC website .
