ABC Commissioner John Lloyd not to be reappointed in September

Today, John Lloyd, PSM confirmed that he would not be reappointed to the role of ABC Commissioner when his tenure expires in September 2010.

Commissioner Lloyd was advised by the Deputy Prime Minister that he would not be reappointed to the position of ABC Commissioner. Mr Lloyd has declined to reapply when the position is advertised.

“I have found the role of ABC Commissioner over the past five years to be challenging and fulfilling.”

Commissioner Lloyd has not made a decision on a finishing up date. “I intend to work through to near the end of my tenure, 28 September 2010.”

Reflecting on the work of the ABCC, Mr Lloyd said that the agency had been responsible for improving the workplace relations conduct of the building and construction industry. More projects are now completed on time and within budget. The industry’s productivity has improved.

Mr Lloyd praised the dedication of the ABCC staff.

“ABCC staff are often required to work in confronting circumstances. They have proved to be very resilient and professional in how they go about their duties.”

Commissioner Lloyd acknowledged the support of many in the industry. Most want to work in a law abiding environment and appreciate the activities of the ABCC. He especially paid tribute to those in the industry with the courage to complain about unlawful conduct and to assist ABCC investigations.

Mr Lloyd said the ABCC will continue to work assiduously to ensure those who contravene the law are held accountable for their conduct.

Mr Lloyd was appointed ABC Commissioner on 29 September 2005.
