ABCC investigates Bendigo pay docking claims

VIC , Statement

Release date: 11 May 2006

Today, the ABCC learnt of claims that workers at a Bendigo Mines site had their pay docked for being absent from the site during working hours.

The ABC Commissioner, John Lloyd, issued the following statement.

"The ABCC has today launched an investigation into claims that workers at a Bendigo Mines site had their pay docked for being absent from the site during working hours.

The ABCC learnt of the alleged pay penalty from media reports, and is yet to receive any complaints from workers at the site or any trade union.

Employers can dock pay in certain circumstances. The investigation will determine if pay was docked and if so, whether that was lawful.

Until the investigation is completed no further comment will be issued."
