The Office of the Australian Building and Construction Commissioner (ABCC) 2006-07 Annual Report was tabled in the Australian Parliament today.
ABC Commissioner John Lloyd said industrial relations conduct in the building and construction industry continued to improve in 2006-07.
"Industry players are aware that those who contravene the law are now likely to be held to account. Building and construction work sites are now run in a more lawful manner," Mr Lloyd said.
In 2006-07 the ABCC:
- recorded 3541 enquiries
- pursued 216 investigations into suspected contraventions of relevant workplace laws;
- issued 20 notices to attend a compulsory examination and answer questions;
- was involved in 26 cases before the courts and had nine penalty proceedings concluded before the courts in the reporting period;
- intervened in 34 Australian Industrial Relations Commission proceedings and four court proceedings; and
- conducted 284 presentations to approximately 6500 attendees.
