The ABCC 2008-09 Annual Report has been tabled in the Australian Parliament. The ABCC has continued to be an active regulator and educator in ensuring workplace relations laws are upheld in the building and construction industry.
The ABCC’s business of investigations and legal proceedings continued at a steady rate. At the same time the agency continued to record high numbers of site visits and presentations to assist building industry participants in understanding the laws.
Of note, activities relating to the National Code of Practice for the Building Industry have grown markedly on those recorded in 2007-08. National Code site visits nearly doubled from 597 to 1169; inspections increased from 28 to 92; and audits increased from 15 to 40. The figures also show that there has been over a 25 per cent increase in the number of construction sites subject to the National Code compared to 2007-08.
