The ABCC’s primary responsibility is to ensure that workplace laws are upheld in the building and construction industry.
The ABCC achieves this by:
- educating industry participants about their rights and responsibilities under workplace laws
- investigating suspected contraventions of the law, the National Code of Practice, federal agreements and awards
- instituting or intervening in proceedings when workplace laws are broken.
The main function of the ABCC is to support a workplace relations framework that ensures building work is carried out fairly, efficiently and productively.
We are committed to providing courteous, professional and quality service in line with our Service Charter. We will answer your questions and inquiries promptly and explain our decisions.
Established in October 2005, the ABCC subsumed the BIT, which was established in response to the Cole Royal Commission.
Commissioner Leigh Johns heads the ABCC. View our structure and read the profile of the ABC Commissioner.
