Reconciliation action plan

2011-12 Reconciliation Action Plan

The ABCC put in place its first Reconciliation Action Plan in early 2007. The current  Reconciliation Action Plan - 102KB was put in place in 2011. Its focus is on improving employment outcomes for Indigenous staff by providing avenues for professional advancement, encouraging and supporting career development and fostering a culturally sensitive working environment through the provision of cross-cultural awareness training.

In September 2010 the ABCC and Reconciliation Australia released the  ABCC RAP Annual Progress Report for the Year 2009-10 - 254KB. The report shows that the ABCC implemented 13 of the 16 identified actions during the period.

During the current reporting period the ABCC:

  • Actively participated on the Indigenous APS Employees Network Committee to provide Indigenous staff with access to structured programs for professional advancement
  • delivered cross-cultural awareness and diversity training as part of commitment to a supportive and culturally sensitive working environment for all staff
  • recognised the achievements of Indigenous employees by supporting the programs run by the APSC and other Indigenous networks.

The ABCC has a representative on the APS Indigenous Network. In 2007-08, one ABCC employee successfully applied for an Executive Leadership Dimensions scholarship awarded by the APSC.
